Cognitive Analytic Therapy or CAT is a time-limited, solution-focused therapy, with a greater emphasis on how past events such as your childhood may have shaped your current thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It is commonly used to help people who have faced problems for a long period of time.
One of The Insight Network’s therapists or psychiatrists will work with you to identify how your problems have evolved and establish why your current coping mechanisms, which are likely to have been used for a number of years, may now be ineffective.
Techniques used in CAT are similar to those used in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and, similarly, the aim is to help you quickly develop new, effective coping mechanisms, to reduce the need for ongoing therapy.
